Electricity provides us with light,
heat or sound. It provides energy to drive a record player or train. It
is used to send pictures round the world. Electricity is our most useful form
of energy. Electricity must be generated. It can be supplied from two major
sources: battery or power station. Power stations convert energy from different
sources. Coal, oil and nuclear fuels are used to produce electricity. Water is
another source of energy. It can be taken from a dam to drive generators. This
process is called hydro-electricity. The world’s coal and oil supplies are
diminishing. Other sources of energy are, therefore, needed. Sunlight, wind and
waves will help to provide useful energy.
